Coffee is one of the most drinkable beverages. Coffee health became a strong discussion issue. Caffeine is a stimulant that is responsible for good and bad things to human health. 


Coffee was the main source of energy for many people from the time it was discovered. It is 100% natural. It doesn’t have dyes, preservatives or additives.  

Coffee health fact: A cup of black coffee has no fat, no cholesterol and some calories. The addition of milk and sugar is what effects silhouettes.

People drink coffee in the morning or whenever they need help in maintaining concentration in work. Some people believe that coffee consumption engages a lot of hazards. For them it should be avoided.

Coffee health fact: Too much caffeine is bad for everyone’s health.


Caffeine was discovered in 1820 by a German chemist named Friedlieb F. Runge. A lot of studies have been published on consequences of caffeine to humans. Not all of them though agree on all the matters. The human body can tolerate with certain amount of caffeine. This depends on the person’s health condition.

Coffee health fact: A quantity up to 3 portions of coffee is accepted by many doctors as an acceptable level of intake.

Coffee health in association with coffee beans & caffeine:

(i) Arabica coffee beans have 30% less caffeine than Robusta.

(ii) Dark roasted beans have less caffeine than light roasted. (They stay longer on fire).


(a) Antioxidant. Antioxidants protect the body against toxic free radicals that cause cancers. They also control blood pressure and premature aging.

(b) Stimulant. Caffeine can accelerate exercise performance, boost energy and increase memory function. It can also help calorie burning through changes in metabolism.   

(c) Analgesic. It contains one of the most common ingredients for headache cure.

(d) Diuretic. Caffeine makes kidneys work better. They produce more urine which takes toxins out of the body.

In the medical field there are some arguments about the impact of coffee on certain diseases. Most of the issues have been tested clinically. There is no 100% proof on any of them. A debate for every new finding that is published on a medical journal about coffee health is always present.

Medical facts accepted as positive on coffee health:

  • Liver protection from cirrhosis & cancer.
  • Diabetes-2 prevention. Coffee has Chlorgoenic acid. It increases body’s insulin.
  • Indication of lowering the chance of developing Parkinson & Alzheimer.


(a) Dehydration. Coffee is diuretic. Extra water must be taken to prevent loss of body fluids.

(b) Insomnia. Too much coffee fills the body with caffeine. It causes sleeplessness.

(c) Addictiveness. Coffee causes dependence. That means headaches, fatigue or other symptoms when caffeine is not taken. It acts like the known drugs (heroin, cocaine etc.) but in much milder way.

Doctors usually advice patients to keep away from coffee during a stress attack. Caffeine is suspected for high blood pressure. In cases of headaches due to migraine coffee avoidance is also recommended. Another limitation suggestion on coffee might be given to women in pregnancy.

Caffeine is one of the prohibited substances on the list of International Olympic Committee. Athletes with more than 12 mg of caffeine per milliliter in their urine are considered “positive tested”. They are banned from the Olympic Games. The same rule is followed and by other professional athletic federations.

Coffee health fact: “Positive tested” level could be obtained by drinking about 4-5 cups of coffee.
